it's showtime

4:30am saturday aug 4th.

i'm sitting on my couch wide awake but completely useless with one five-sixths way complete pasty sitting on the floor because i have no idea where my little thread kit is and the other thread i have is sitting at the bottom of a giant trunk at the foot of my bed piled high with clothes.

heidi and fiance are due to arrive sometime tomorrow and possibly stay over. and right now my floor is covered in bits of costume and bags from the past week's shopping sprees (yes, it's plural for a reason...). i have laundry piled in multiple locations, many of which contain vital items for the the show. and by the looks of it, i won't have any time to spend with them!

so the doors open at 9pm tomorrow--well, today. 16.5 hours away. i leave here at 7:45am to acquire masonite from various locations about the st. louis area and delivering it to a local university's dance studo which was graciously donated to us by the head of the department after hearing the drama behind why we're leaving the original venue.

yep, you can tell from that bitch of a run-on sentence, that just two days before the show we are forced to withdraw from the "princess extravaganza" which was supposed to be our show. the new venue, although an upgrade on many levels, is not ideal.

the studio is beautiful: ten-foot ceilings, large open space for movement, clean! however, like most studios, the floor is a specialized material not fit for street shoes which can dig into the surface or track harmful glass in from outside... in any event, non dance-shoes are not allowed. well that poses two problems--our audience is not likely to bring their dance shoes with them as audiences generally don't dance. another problem being that costuming for this show has been designed to include street shoes as vital elements in the performance. so now we are faced with the two awkward tasks of telling the audience they must remove their shoes before entering (how eastern of us midwesterners) and putting a new floor down for us to perform on.

then we get to design a back stage, stage, curtains, then arrange some ghetto-ass lights we found in an attic, make gel holders for said ghetto lights, and somehow rig it up to a standard roof truss ten-feet in the air!

nothin like startin the day on two hours of sleep only to do some manual labor and then stay up all night again. aeh fuck-it. i slept this last week... and quite a lot, i might add. i could actually use a night with no sleep. it helps keep me balanced.

well i'm about to go shred some emergency blankets and call it a night. well, "night." who knows what can happen tomorrow.

And there I was thinking you'd left those bizarre theatre hours behind you. I hope everything went well.
